In my opinion, the whole strategy of weapons appeasement is wrong. The sales job is narrow, petty and directed toward Republican holdouts.
As  I see it, there are two gieat forces that threaten the future of humanity. One is climate change, the other is the presence of nuclear weapns on  high alert in Russia, the U.S. and other nations.
These questions of human survival should not be subject to the narrow confines of the usual  political discussion in Congress.
These issues must, somehow, be elevated above nationalism and politics. They concern the future of billions of human beings around the world, but there are only 535 seats in the U.S.Congess.
Perhaps the ignored United Nations, dedicated to keeping the peace, is the right  venue. Or can we find a few extraordinary people who have demonstrated a devotion to the welfare of mankind? We could bring them together with the understanding that whatever their decision, we and the other nuclear nations will abide by it. Thus these representatives of the whole of humanity would dictate the step by step reduction and abolition of nuclear weapons.
We need great wisdom, and realism and love to solve the problem of these suicidal weapons, and great humility to accept the ruling of this  World Wisdom Group..
